Woodcarving Tools by Henry Taylor (Tools) Ltd.
Sheffield, England
World-renowned Acorn-brand carving tools have been made by Henry Taylor (Tools) Ltd. since 1834. Only the highest quality high-carbon steel is used, coupled with advanced heat treatment to achieve the finest cutting edge. While other tool manufacturers drop-forge or stamp their tools, each Henry Taylor carving tool is individually hand-forged by skilled craftsmen. The result is a world-class tool demanded by discerning artisans. The Cutting Edge is proud to offer one of the largest selection of Taylor carving tools in the U.S.A.

Straight Chisels & Skew Chisels
Straight chisels and skew chisels resemble ordinary straight chisels, but with a rounded bevel on each side of the cutting edge. On the skew the cutting edge is skewed back to facilitate cutting into corners.
Straight Gouges
All tools with a curve across the blade are called gouges. They are the most used carving tools and are suitable for heavy stock removal, with the wider tools having the advantage of not splitting the wood along the grain. The first gouges listed (#3 & #4) exhibit a very shallow curve across the blade, while the later listings (#9 #11) have a very deep U-section.
Bent Tools
Bent or curved tools are exactly like their straight counterparts except that they are curved along their length to facilitate cutting into recesses, inside bowls, and along curved surfaces. These are a must for all relief carving and for access to recesses in 3-D carvings.
Spoon-Bit and Spoon-Bent Tools
These are tools specifically designed for carving in awkward spots, generally inside tight curves and concave surfaces. The appearance of these tools is like a spoon with the tool form being confined to a short spoon-bowl area at the end of the shaft. Due to the curvature of the bowl end, it is necessary to offer skew chisels in both the left and right handed forms.
Back-Bent Carving Tools
Very similar to spoon bit type tools except that the bowl end of the tool is reversed.
V-Parting Tools
These are straight and bent tools with a V-shaped section. Three different angles of "V" are available: 30°, 45°, and 90°. Winged parting tools have a very shallow "V" with curved sides used primarily for cutting grooves, outlining letter work, etc.
Allongee Tools For Heavy Carving
Similar to fishtail gouges, allongee tools have a shank that tapers back continuously to the bolster. These are very robust tools with the advantage of good visibility around the tool and the ability to cut without damaging the foreground. These are the tools for heavy work.
